How You Can Help

John L. Hoffa and niece, MadyThe grief felt by those who have lost a loved one to suicide is unique and devastating.  The thought that perhaps we can do something to spare others from this kind of pain has led us to support the work of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.  In John’s memory we are trying to raise funds to help support this much needed foundation and the work they do.

In memory of John, we have formed TEAM JOHN L. HOFFA to participate in the Out of the Darkness Walk in Omaha, Nebraska.

We would appreciate your support as we raise money and awareness try to help others.

We would love for you to form a Team John L. Hoffa to walk in your area and we’d be happy to list it here… OR if there isn’t an official walk, find other ways to help raise awareness and funding for the AFSP by visiting their website to learn more.

SPECIAL NOTE: On Thanksgiving Day in 2012, a very wonderful group of soldiers in the Army did something extraordinary. They formed a Team John L. Hoffa and ran 3.1 miles in Afghanistan to raise money for the AFSP.  We’d like to say a very special Thank You to the SFAT 36 (Security Force Assistance Team 36) in Afghanistan for their wonderful contribution and for keeping John’s memory alive in such a remarkable way. Unfortunately, like so many of us, these soldiers have also experienced loss due to suicide.  On average one soldier is lost per day to suicide and this year the number of service men and women who have committed suicide has surpassed the number of deaths seen in combat. We hope that through our combined efforts we can start changing those statistics. Wishing the SFAT 36 and all of our soldiers abroad a safe, happy and healthy return home soon. We love and appreciate you!
